Replace It Once, Correctly

A furnace is a 15-to-20-year decision, and install quality matters as much as the equipment. Wrong sizing, sloppy venting, or leaky duct connections quietly tax every heating bill for two decades, and ductwork is no side issue for us: it’s our second-biggest repair category, so we’ve seen exactly how bad connections age. We size to the house, seal the connections, and verify combustion before we leave. That last part is what our NCI Combustion Analyst certification is for.

Real numbers from our own installs: typically $1,683 to $10,392 installed, with most systems landing at 3 or 4 tons. We’re a Trane TCS Select dealer, and Trane is what we install most, with Day & Night next. Worth knowing before you buy: under Bay Area Air District Rule 9-4, gas furnaces manufactured after January 1, 2029 must meet a zero-NOx standard, so we’ll give you an honest heat pump comparison, rebates included, before you commit either way.

When to replace

How to Know It’s Replacement Time

15-20+ years old

Furnaces at this age are past their design life. Replacing on your schedule beats replacing during the December to January rush, when our no-heat calls peak.

A cracked heat exchanger

This is the repair that usually isn’t worth making. It’s a safety issue and a big-ticket part on an old system.

Repeat repairs

When annual repair bills rival a payment on new equipment, the math has flipped.

Rising bills, uneven heat

Old single-stage furnaces waste fuel. Modern high-AFUE equipment heats more evenly for less.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a new furnace cost installed?

From our own installs: typical full replacements run between $1,683 and $10,392 depending on size and scope. The in-home estimate is free and itemized.

Should I replace my furnace with a heat pump?

Sometimes, yes. Bay Area rules are tightening on gas equipment, and rebates favor heat pumps. We’ll show you both sets of numbers honestly and install whichever fits your house and budget.

How long does furnace installation take?

Usually one day for a like-for-like swap. Venting, gas line, or duct modifications can add time.

Which brands do you install?

We’re a Trane TCS Select dealer, and Trane is the brand we install most. We also install Day & Night, Lennox, and Bryant. No online-purchased units; the warranties aren’t honored.

What warranty comes with the install?

Three years on labor plus the manufacturer’s equipment warranty, with combustion verified before handoff.
