Is Modern Air a Trane Dealer?
Yes. Modern Air is a Trane dealer serving the whole South Bay, from Palo Alto, Fremont, San Jose, Santa Clara, Campbell, and Los Gatos down through Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and Hollister, and over the hill to Santa Cruz and Watsonville. Our shop is at 16570 Church Street, Suite 130, in Morgan Hill, and Trane lists us in its own dealer locator. Trane is the brand we install more than any other, followed by Day & Night, Lennox, and Bryant for ducted systems, with Mitsubishi as our pick for ductless mini-splits. That ranking comes from our own job records, not a marketing agreement. We have installed and serviced heating and cooling equipment across the South Bay since 2009 under California contractor license CSLB #935704. If you already have a Trane system, we can service it, repair it, and register new Trane equipment so the manufacturer warranty stays valid. If you are shopping for a replacement, we will quote Trane alongside the other brands that fit your home, and explain the difference in plain language. Which HVAC Brands Do We Install, and Which Do We Service?
Modern Air installs five brands it can register, warranty, and support for the life of the system: Trane, Day & Night, Lennox, Bryant, and Mitsubishi ductless. Our own job records since 2009 put Trane first by a wide margin. We service a much longer list. Our technicians repair Trane, Lennox, Carrier, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Rheem, Goodman, American Standard, and more, including furnaces and condensers from brands that are no longer sold.
- Trane, our most-installed brand for air conditioners, heat pumps, and furnaces.
- Day & Night, Lennox, and Bryant, solid ducted options when budget, parts availability, or an existing system make them the better fit.
- Mitsubishi, our go-to for ductless mini-splits, room additions, and homes without ductwork.
Owning one brand today does not lock a homeowner into it. When a system is replaced, Modern Air sizes the new equipment to the house and the ducts, then recommends the brand and tier that fit. See cooling and heating for the full service list.
Why Won’t We Install Equipment Bought Online?
Modern Air does not install air conditioners, heat pumps, or split systems bought on Amazon or other online stores. Our dealer agreements do not allow it, and manufacturer warranties are written against it. Daikin’s residential warranty, for example, excludes “units that are ordered over the Internet” unless a licensed dealer installs them to code. Trane’s full Registered Limited Warranty only applies when the equipment is registered within 60 days of installation. An online listing can advertise a warranty that the manufacturer never has to honor.
One South Bay homeowner bought an efficient two-stage air conditioner online and left it in his backyard while he collected installation quotes. Modern Air could not install it, so he had us supply and install a unit we could register, and the online unit became a write-off. When pricing a new system, get one quote that covers the equipment and the installation together.
Does the Brand Matter More Than the Installer?
The installer matters more than the HVAC brand. Two South Bay companies can quote the same Trane or Lennox system, and the homeowner picks the cheaper bid because the equipment looks identical. How that system performs for the next 15 years depends on sizing, ductwork, refrigerant charge, and airflow setup, which are all decided by the installer.
Modern Air owner Andrew Salinas puts it plainly: “What matters the most is not necessarily the brand or the technology. What matters the most is who installs it, and are they willing to stand behind what they’re providing.” A premium unit on undersized ducts will underperform a mid-tier unit installed correctly. Every Modern Air installation starts with sizing the equipment to the home and checking the ductwork, and a technician, not a commissioned salesperson, writes the quote. That approach, in place since 2009, is how Modern Air earned a 5.0 rating across 220 Google reviews.
What Is Variable-Speed (Modulating) HVAC Equipment?
Variable-speed or modulating HVAC equipment is a heat pump or air conditioner that adjusts its output in small steps instead of switching between full power and off. A single-stage unit runs at 100 percent every time it starts. According to U.S. Department of Energy Building America research, variable-capacity units can run from about 40 to 118 percent of their rated capacity and stay on 60 to 100 percent more hours per day than fixed-capacity systems, in long, quiet cycles that keep temperatures even.
That matters in the South Bay, where most of the year is mild. Andrew Salinas calls modulating equipment “the future,” because in a moderate climate it can run at very low speed and still keep a home comfortable while using less electricity than older equipment cycling on and off. It pairs especially well with heat pumps as more homes move away from gas furnaces, and local programs such as Silicon Valley Clean Energy have offered rebates when a heat pump replaces a gas furnace. We confirm which incentives are active the week we quote, and our offers page lists current ones.
How Does Remote Monitoring Help After Installation?
Remote monitoring lets us see how a connected system has been running, including its history, instead of guessing from a single visit. On compatible equipment we can review trends, sometimes diagnose a problem before a technician drives out, and explain why a failure happened, not just fix it.
A simple example: rising static pressure over a few weeks often means a clogged filter. With monitoring, we can call and say the filter needs changing before the system strains itself or shuts down. For bigger problems, the recorded history gives our technicians a more thorough diagnosis and helps prevent the same failure from happening again.
Smart thermostats like Nest, ecobee, and Honeywell are a useful first step because they let you control the system from your phone and see basic history. They do not make the equipment itself more efficient, though, and some energy-saving settings can shut a system off and make rooms less comfortable. We install and configure them correctly as part of our thermostat services.
What Warranty Comes With New Equipment?
Every Modern Air installation carries a three-year labor warranty on top of the manufacturer’s equipment warranty, and every repair carries a two-year labor warranty. The manufacturer side depends on registration: Trane extends coverage to its Registered Limited Warranty only when the unit is registered within 60 days of installation, and Modern Air registers the equipment it installs.
We also stand behind our work past the paperwork. If a problem shows up after the warranty period and it traces back to our workmanship on a system the owner has maintained, we have fixed it as a warranty call. Regular maintenance keeps both warranties healthy, and our maintenance plan covers two tune-ups a year from $15 a month. Frequently Asked Questions
Is Modern Air a Trane dealer?
Yes. Modern Air is listed in Trane’s own dealer locator as a Trane dealer, based at 16570 Church Street in Morgan Hill. Trane is the brand we install most often, and we install it across the South Bay, from Palo Alto, Fremont, San Jose, Santa Clara, and Campbell down through Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and Hollister, and over to Santa Cruz County.
What HVAC brands does Modern Air install?
Trane first, then Day & Night, Lennox, and Bryant for ducted systems, with Mitsubishi as our go-to for ductless mini-splits. We recommend a brand based on the home, the ductwork, and the budget, not on a sales quota.
What brands do you repair and service?
Nearly all of them. Our technicians service Trane, Lennox, Carrier, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Rheem, Goodman, American Standard, and more, including older systems from brands no longer sold.
Will you install an air conditioner or heat pump I bought online?
No. Manufacturers generally will not honor the warranty on split systems sold online, and our dealer agreements do not allow us to install them. We can quote the equipment and installation together so the warranty is registered and valid.
Is Trane better than Lennox?
Both make excellent equipment, and both have good and bad installs out in the field. The difference you will actually feel comes from correct sizing, ductwork, refrigerant charge, and setup. That is why we tell homeowners to choose the installer first and the brand second.
What is a variable-speed or modulating system?
It is equipment that adjusts its output in small steps instead of running full blast or off. In the South Bay’s mild climate it can run at very low speed for long stretches, which keeps temperatures even and utility bills lower than a single-stage system.
What warranty comes with new equipment from Modern Air?
Every installation carries a three-year labor warranty from Modern Air on top of the manufacturer’s equipment warranty, and repairs carry two years. When a problem traces back to our workmanship, we have honored it even after the warranty ran out.
