Modern Air began the way a lot of good trade businesses do, with a technician who wanted to do the work right. Founder Andrew R. Salinas went straight into HVAC after graduating in 2005, starting at a San Martin company whose owner became his mentor, pointing him toward the books and habits that build a real business. In 2008 Andrew joined a small Morgan Hill shop, and when its owner moved away, the customers kept calling Andrew. So in 2009 he got his California contractor’s license to keep everything legitimate and above board, and Modern Air’s story began.
Many of those first customers came through specialty refrigeration, wine cellar cooling systems that most contractors wouldn’t touch. That early niche shaped how we still think about comfort today: precise, technical, and never one-size-fits-all.
Formerly ARS Comfort Solutions
For years the company operated as ARS Comfort Solutions, “ARS” being Andrew’s initials. In 2021 we rebranded to Modern Air after a national company trademarked the ARS letters. The new name fit better anyway: in Silicon Valley, homeowners expect a company that embraces technology rather than clinging to the old ways. We monitor communicating systems remotely, diagnose smarter, and keep up with a fast-changing industry, but the heart of the business has never changed. Same owner, same crew, same license, same Church Street office in downtown Morgan Hill.

Ask Andrew to describe the brand in three words and you get the same answer every time: expert, honest, quality. Ask what he says to the team most often and it’s just as short, make sure it’s done right. Those aren’t slogans. They’re the reason we’d rather pay a technician overtime to finish a job correctly than rush it and earn a callback, and the reason we’ll lose money on a project before we’ll leave a customer unhappy. It’s a long-term business: we want our doors open for years so we’re here whenever you need us.
What you won’t find here is the stuff that gives the trade a bad name. We don’t fear-monger. We don’t push unnecessary upgrades, and our technicians are never incentivized to upsell. When we quote a job, an experienced tech, not a sales rep, walks your home, photographs the work, and tells you exactly where the equipment, line set, and ductwork will go. A Small Team That Does Real Work
Modern Air is intentionally lean. Every person who draws a paycheck does hands-on work, there’s no oversized office staff sitting between you and the technician. Our longest-tenured techs have been here for over a decade, Billy since 2012 and Seth since 2013, and as we grow we add people slowly and methodically so quality never slips. That’s the plan for the future, too: grow carefully, keep the reputation spotless, and build a company we’re proud of.

Meet Andrew Salinas
Andrew went straight from graduation into the trade in 2005, so straight that he nearly missed the ceremony because he was already working full-time. By 2009 the customers of a small Morgan Hill shop were calling him directly, and ARS Comfort Solutions, named for his initials, grew into Modern Air.
His rule for the crew hasn’t changed since: make sure it’s done right. Nobody here earns commission on upsells, and your quote comes from a working installer, never a salesperson. Andrew’s honored labor warranties years past their expiry, because the work carries his name.

Is Modern Air the same company as ARS Comfort Solutions?
Yes. Modern Air was formerly ARS Comfort Solutions, “ARS” stood for the founder’s initials. The name changed in 2021 after a national company trademarked the ARS letters, but the ownership, team, license CSLB #935704, and roots in Morgan Hill have stayed exactly the same.

Modern Air is owned and run by founder Andrew Salinas. He’s been in the trade since 2005, licensed since 2009, and he still quotes and works jobs himself alongside the crew.
Where is Modern Air located?
Our office is at 16570 Church St Suite 130 in downtown Morgan Hill. From there our techs cover the South Bay and the Santa Cruz coast every day, from San Jose and Campbell down to Gilroy and out to Santa Cruz and Watsonville.
What makes Modern Air different from other HVAC companies?
Two things. First, the people who quote your job are working technicians, not commission salespeople, so the plan you’re promised is the work you get. Second, we don’t upsell or use fear tactics; if a repair will do the job, a repair is what we’ll recommend.
